Some Counter-Productive yet Popular Behaviors in Christian Dating
Is it possible that one’s attitude could influence whether or not they are single? Mitch Temple in Focus on The Family talks about the many misconceptions of attitudes and importance. He points out that perception left unchecked can distort the truth and poison our attitude toward another person. These poisoned attitudes can ultimately tear down a relationship and prevent you from finding that Christian match you have been hoping to find. This may in the long run keep you single forever.
Attitude Number 1 – “All the good ones are taken.” This attitude leads you to believe that there are no available single Christian men left to find, so why bother looking? Many single Christian women in particular have resigned themselves to a life of singleness basing their decision in part on past failed dating relationships and in part to a lack of men to choose from. Such attitudes will definitely tell anybody that you are comfortable with being single and you don’t want to be disturbed or any of that kind.
Attitude Number 2 When God allows me to have someone then he will provide me with someone I like. This attitude leads you to think that all you have to do is sit back and when the time is right if God wills He will drop a suitable partner in the seat next to you. Proverbs 18:22 states “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord” This verse implies movement and action as evidenced by the verb “find”. This saying definitely remind me to trust with God’s grace and to be grip on the idea that he who waits shall harvest and own the best things life and God can only offer.
Attitude Number 3 I didn’t marry because I didn’t ask God about it. Well, this has been one lucid alibi of someone who hasn’t found the right one and prefer to stay single for a while. Definitely, I have asked for a partner but I guess it will not come true so I will still stay single. Well, many people say that the best way for any prayer to be granted is to pray with all your heart in it.
Attitude Number 4 – Something must have been wrong with me. Often-times a martyr attitude comes into play in the dating arena. This attitude can poison a person from the inside out affecting their interactions with not only dating partners but friends and family as well. An individual with a martyr attitude spends their time feeling sorry for themselves, often going to great lengths to have others feel sorry for their woes also. They spend an enormous amount of time comparing what they have with what others have. They are convinced that like Job, God must be punishing them for something or they would have an abundance of love in their life.
Attitude Number 5 Single groupings in church is a waste of time actually. Many Christian singles do not utilize their church singles groups as opportunities to build friendships. Instead, they walk past the group especially if there aren’t singles among them. What will eventually be left with the Christian church if all people will be taking long in engaging into a group in church? Perhaps, the dating aspect maybe quite dim yet more cheer to building friendship.
Attitude Number 6 Every man is out to look for great women with voluptuous body. How can I possibly compete with them? This attitude can be very dangerous in that one projects what they believe. This can actually happen if literally you believe that you are less than any woman out there. What do I mean by this? For instance, a handsome lady shall feel intimidated when seated with a gorgeous woman at her side. Then, you notice her looking at the same person the other has been looking to also. This gentleman has been waving to you and showing interest for weeks yet, when he finally asks if you would like to sit next to him and you see the other woman in the row ahead of you decline. You become afraid he will ultimately compare her to you and decide he likes her better.
See, these are actually some of the possibilities you may encounter in a suitable Christian match. In the future, not only check your attitude but check your heart as well. Perhaps through it, you will find your partner.
