Perspective
It is crazy the difference in enjoyement of life that comes with a tiny change of perspective. So many people live out of a place of unsatisfiable need . Always looking to that next thing. It becomes easy while working in a job consisting of fancy homes and things. People work themselves mad to progress up the property and success ladder. But to what end? After you get that huge item or promotion are you satisfied? Is it enough? Ever? It is very simple to get sucked into that living in the society that eats and breathes materialism for breakfast, lunch and dinner (oh wait, they most likely skip breakfast because they are in too much of a hurry or they are watching their weight sound like success to you?). It’s the lingo we feed our kids from the start : study hard, go to college so that you can work hard and be “successful.” read: have lots of money. Is that success, though? I know many rich people that I would not trade places with. They’ve established wealth, not joy. What’s the answer to this? I think it starts with thankfulness. Stop thinking about turkeys. That’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about really being thankful for the things/people in your life. Making a conscious effort to realize the goodness in things. Out of that comes more joy. I do not think you can not have lots of money and still be in this place….I do think it’s harder, however . The bottom line is death is coming. It just is. At the end of the day, is your bank account what matters to you? Maybe it is…but are you happy? I’ve found that counting my blessings literally thinking about what I have and truly being thankful for it leads to much more happiness than worrying about how I am going to get that new car so I can look good for who was it again? Because I’m sure they really care…
This is not meant to be a lecture. Just a call to be happier. I hope for more joy for you in this day.
