Churches Lawsuits are on the Rise
Every church is vulnerable to legal complaints from a number of sources. Church lawsuits are on the rise. But, at the top of the legal issues, has to do with the scum that crawl into a church looking for a child to harm. These child predators are destroying lives, but they are also destroying churches as well. Yours might be their next target. Worse, your child could become one of the targets of such a predator.
Protecting Children has become a Necessity
It’s a rather blunt way to put it, but it’s the truth. Protecting children in church has become a necessity. The Catholic church has had a tsunami of legal actions involving priest predators. However, the Protestants and Baptists, Lutherans, and Charismatics all have their problems with this activity as well. Churches have had lawsuits filed against them over the years because of sexual predator who molested a child.
Verdicts for not protecting children can be huge
Often, the predator turned out to be a trustee, a leader, or some other individual in some kind of leadership role. In one case involving a church and church school in Texas a few years ago, a jury returned a verdict in excess of $30 million dollars. This was in addition to almost the same numbers taken in settlement against one of the defendants, pre-trial. The verdicts reveal that juries are punishing religious organizations who refuse to protect the children in their care. And well they should.
Many ways exist to protect against child predators
There Child predators are amongst us. These criminals don’t care about you, about laws, about a religious institution, or about your child.
